    Cenovus has an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a Unit Contact Engineer in-Training at the Lloydminster Upgrader. This is an excellent opportunity to participate, support and progress initiatives such as root cause analyses, incident investigations and accelerator programs.

    What you'll do:

  • Develop & monitor the day-to-day operating targets and specifications of the Upgrader Complex units. Identify any deviations and communicate corrective actions to Operations.
  • Complete and communicate unit performance capabilities through mass and energy balances, process simulations, performance test runs, and vendor/specialist consultations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary plant wide and corporate initiatives related to reliability, safety, and the Cenovus Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS).
  • Initiate & participate in process hazard assessments for responsible units that are initiated by the management of change MOC process, engineering investigations, and unit PHA revalidations.
  • Initiate and implement plant & process changes using the Management of Change MOC process.
  • Integral to planned and un-planned outages providing troubleshooting, shutdown support, initial/final process equipment inspections, found work, and startup support.
  • Provide decision support and prioritize Engineering Investigations (EI's) based on personnel safety, process safety, process reliability, unit efficiency, and profitability.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations & Maintenance teams to effect continuous improvements to plant safety, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Consider & comply with all HS&E requirements in the performing tasks & responsibilities of the position.
  • Seek to develop unit contact engineering skills by coaching & mentoring.
  • Who you are:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Process or Petroleum Engineering.
  • Degree in other Engineering discipline with relatable experience will be considered.
  • Registered as E.I.T with APEGA/APEGS or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Experience with HYSYS refining simulation software or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PPT, etc.)
  • Exposure to ASME, API, and SBB codes and regulations will be advantageous.
  • Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Refining experience of 3-5 years.
  • As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

    For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
