The Opportunity:

We are currently looking for a
Utility Worker II to join our Regional Operations team in a permanent position.

Reporting to the T&D Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient performance of general utility duties.

Key elements of this role include:

  • Duties including but are not limited to heavy labour, routine maintenance work, operating snow clearing equipment, lawn maintenance equipment, etc., maintaining housekeeping of yard depots and truck bays, cleaning/housekeeping of line trucks and equipment, performing minor line truck preventative maintenance work, maintaining line truck inventories, assisting PLTs with loading heavy equipment like transformers poles and cable, assembling yard/streetlight kits, environmental maintenance and control, vegetative control, and other miscellaneous duties as required.
  • You will provide assistance to other utility workers in the performance of their duties as required. You will travel to line depots throughout the region regularly for work as required.
  • You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province.

g:
in-house safety, environmental, vehicle operation and other training courses related to your position. You must be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.

  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your coworkers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
  • You will demonstrate your knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and your responsibilities under the Act. You will take a very proactive approach to safety and will demonstrate your commitment to the Risk Assessment Process consistently.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • A Grade XII education or equivalent, with reading and writing skills necessary to perform the duties of the position safely and effectively, is required.
  • You must be able to perform heavy labour duties with demonstrated skills in general depot/yard/building cleanliness requirements and be familiar with and capable of using common hand and power tools in the course of the daytoday work.
  • Being selfmotivated and having the ability to get along well with others and work with minimum supervision is essential.
  • A strong environmental awareness and dedication, with particular understanding and experience with recycling requirements and standards is an asset.

You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of two years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI
:


  • Demonstrated experience with or certification in material handling using aerial devices like boom trucks is an asset.
  • You must be capable of working in a variety of confined spaces using all appropriate personal protective equipment and other safety devices.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Must be able to lift a range of 1766 lbs. from waist to overhead on a mínimal to frequent basis
  • Able to carry 2566 lbs. with one or two hands
  • Use a range of grip strength from simple to firm grasp with turning motions
  • Use upper and whole body strength to push and pull 2050 lbs.
  • Perform static reaching from shoulder to overhead occasionally and frequently at waist and lateral level
  • Perform frequent walking
  • Occasionally perform standing, bending, stooping, and forward flexional movements, squatting, twisting while balancing with neck flexion, extension and rotation movements
  • Perform sitting, kneeling, crouching, and crawling on a mínimal basis
  • Able to discriminate colors through vision and adjust to warm temperatures and confined spaces
