Position Ssmmary


This position is responsible for developing, reviewing and overseeing the implementation and overall compliance to health and safety policies, programs and procedures constituting our environment, health and safety management system.

Duties include performing health and safety audits, creating initiatives to reduce and prevent incidents, developing and conducting training sessions, providing leadership to health and safety advisors and operations' leaders on health and safety standards and strategies, conducting regular site visits and reporting health and safety KPIs and projects updates to Corporate Leaders.


Responsibilities:


  • In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Health and Safety, developing, maintaining and overseeing the implementation of health and safety programs and procedures in accordance with company policy and regulatory standards.
  • Performing compliance, and systembased audits at SJI facilities.
  • Participating in the SJI Management of Change (MOC) process to verify compliance with established standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigating serious injuries in collaboration with facility H&S advisors to identify root cause, countermeasures and validate action plan.
  • Monitoring and analyzing completed incident reports to identify strategies to minimize and prevent incidents.
  • Monitoring national and provincial regulatory updates to provide operations with awareness and strategies to comply.
  • Developing and providing training sessions to provide guidance to health and safety advisors and operations' leaders.
  • Acting as point of contact to provide SJI leaders with health and safety standards and strategies guidance.
  • Conducting site visits at facilities to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Attending at least one Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meeting quarterly.
  • Monitoring Canadian facilities KPIs.
  • Supporting the environment managers.
  • Supporting the HR department in RTW and other strategies.
  • Preparing monthly and annual health and safety projects updates.
  • Maintaining Convergence (Online Training) structure.
  • Reviewing new SDSs and initiate the annual review of the facility level SDSs inventory.
  • Perform other duties as required and requested.
Qualifications and Core Competencies

  • Postsecondary education in environment, health and safety or combination of education and experience.
  • CRSP/CSP (an asset)
- valid driver's license

  • Minimum 8 years of managing EHS and conducting H&S audits in an industrial environment
  • Strong understanding of Federal and Provincial H&S regulatory requirements
  • Strong understanding of environment regulations a plus.
  • Proficient in developing and maintaining EHS management systems
  • Experience with various H&S audit protocols (COR, ISO)
  • Experience with the change management process
- xperience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis and development of mitigation strategies

  • Proficient in creating and presenting training materials
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
- ble to work under pressure and prioritize projects

  • Knowledge of wood treating industry is an asset.
