Description
The Paralegal will serve as a legal support person to Kia Canada and provide support to Kia Canada's General Counsel.
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are required. This role would be suitable for a self-starter who is comfortable and confident in a fast-paced environment. Excellent negotiation skills are required, as well as the ability to prioritize competing demands. Litigation management experience required.Litigation Management
- Independently manage Small Claims Court matters from jurisdictions across Canada, from opening of file to close in a strategic and efficient manner. Drafting letters to the Courts and plaintiffs, investigating facts of a case, engaging inspections when necessary, and representing Kia Canada in negotiations, settlement conferences, and trials.
- Handing all Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP) related cases and supporting customer disputes.
- Manage escalated customer complaints, Office of Consumer Protection complaints, and Advertising Standards Canada complaints.
- Support Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel on Superior Court Matters and litigation reporting to headquarters.
Administrative Duties
- Act as the intake officer for inquiries from internal business units, where you will be expected to obtain the relevant facts for discussion with Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel.
- Along with the Legal Support Coordinator, oversee the department "to do list", which is a comprehensive list of all tasks to be completed by the Paralegal, Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel.
- Complete billing of invoices.
- Provide monthly litigation reports and quarterly invoice reports.
- Complete research as needed.
- Perform training presentations as required.
Skills / Knowledge / Experience / Education Required
- Completion of a relevant postsecondary program and/or at least 4 years' experience in a legal administrative/support role in a law firm/legal department.
- Must possess strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize with attention to detail priorities often change.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills you will liaise with many people from outside counsel to internal business units.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Automotive Industry knowledge preferable.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset
