This opportunity is for current students looking for work experience in Summer 2023 (May - August).

These are MITACS funded internships and successful applicants will be based off their eligibility to receive funding.
As a

Product Discovery Associate, you are responsible for assisting in discovering and investigating new ideas for products that will elevate human potential through applied AI.

The product team in AltaML's Invent division is responsible for launching brand new products and business lines.

This involves the rigorous process of vetting new ideas by evaluating their potential impact on the world and their feasibility of becoming a functional business.

An important part of this process includes understanding the target customer.

You will help us learn what the customers are trying to do, why they do it, and how we can help them make significant improvements.

If you have a strong desire to take ideas from 0 to 1, through starting a business, social enterprise, or another means of making an impact, this position will provide highly relevant skills and experience.

What You'll Do:

Conduct user discovery interviews with internal and external users/stakeholders to reveal and evaluate new business ideas
Synthesise customer feedback for communication with the product, technical and business development teams
Collaborate with our technical teams to determine feasibility of the proposed ideas (use cases)
Research product trends to keep up to date with the rapidly evolving world of technology in the investment management industry
Identify where machine learning may be uniquely capable of solving those needs
Quantify the opportunity by estimating the value to the customer and the market
Prepare and deliver presentations in a professional matter to management and potential partners for cobuilding.
Help us develop the best process for evaluating ideas and growing them into products. This involves humbly listening to data, recognizing the team's strengths and weaknesses, embracing failures, and brainstorming ways to continue to improve.

What You Bring:

You are working towards a career in business development, marketing, technical sales, or product management: you may be pursuing a degree in business, marketing, or a more technical degree (CS, Engineering, Data Science) with a strong interest in how your work delivers value to customers.
Confident, clear, and concise communication
Professional interaction with customers, including executives
Track record of entrepreneurial activities

Bonus Points:

Knowledge of machine learning / AI
Knowledge of additional functional areas such as Engineering, Sales, UX/UI, Customer Support, Marketing, or Finance
