Facility Operator


The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury's Community Services Department is seeking a highly energetic, motivated and organized individual to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of its leisure facilities.

This includes the state-of-the-art Leisure Centre, which includes two NHL sized ice rinks, an aquatic centre, gymnasium, community program rooms and a comprehensive fitness centre, as well as the BWG Library and Cultural Centre and the Bob Fallis Sports Centre.


Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Facility Operator is responsible for a variety of duties associated with the operation of leisure facilities.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with arena ice making and maintenance processes, including but not limited to ice resurfacing, edges, scrapes, and refrigeration plant checks.
  • Performs pool maintenance duties including operation of pool filtration system and pool cleaning equipment, water quality testing, balancing, inspection logs and adding chemicals as required.
  • Performs janitorial/maintenance duties including cleaning floors, walls, showers, change rooms, washrooms, fixtures, furniture and/or other building amenities including walkway sweeping/snow removal.
  • Event setups and tear downs for facility bookings.
  • Ensures that all security measures, policies and health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public, staff, contractors and user groups.
  • Maintains safe and efficient operation of all facility operations.

Key Competencies and Qualifications:


  • Previous experience relating to the operation and maintenance of arenas, pools and recreation facilities, including operation of the ice resurfacer.
  • Minimum of an Ontario secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Arena Refrigeration Certificate from the ORFA
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate
  • CIT designation, CAT designation, or a Refrigeration B license is considered an asset
  • Physically able to perform all activities (i.e. lifting, climbing ladders, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of all related regulations (i.e. Fire Code, OHSA) and possess mechanical knowledge of various facility systems.
  • Proven skills in public relations, customer service, interpersonal skills, project/time management, and analytical problem solving.
  • Able to communicate effectively, professionally and courteously with all levels of staff, external contacts and the public.
  • Able to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies and the public.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Possess a valid Class G driver's license in good standing
  • Must be able to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening upon hire
This union position offers an hourly wage rate of $26.59 $32.77 _(April 1, 2024 rates. International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793)._
