The Opportunity

Families in Transition provides workshops, groups and individual counselling to children, youth
and adults to support them through separation and divorce. We are seeking someone with
Transition team, in which counsellors use a range of therapeutic modalities, participate in
clinical consultations and have a shared commitment to professional development.

What we are looking for:

Counselling expertise:


  • Provide culturally competent, trauma informed and evidencebased counselling for
individual children, youth and adults

  • Facilitate workshops
  • Experience and/or knowledge of working with people facing an array of challenges,
including impacts of separation or divorce, parenting, co-parenting, gender-based
violence, mental health and developmental disabilities

  • Provide services to clients from diverse ethnocultural communities, diverse sexual
orientation and gender identities, and to clients who are marginalized by a range of
systemic issues

  • Provide professional clinical assessments, case notes and reports in a timely manner using
an electronic client database.


Key Qualifications:


  • M.S.W., M.A. or M.Ed.; Foreign credentials or BSW combined with relevant experience are
valued. Foreign credentials are valued.

  • Applicants must be registered and in good standing with the College of Social Workers and
Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

  • Three to five years experience in a clinical counselling role.
  • Demonstrated clinical training, experience, and competence in integrating at least two
clinical modalities into practice (e.g. Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Expressive Arts, Mindfulness,
CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, DBT)

  • Demonstrated training and knowledge working with children, youth and adults
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of the principles of social justice, cultural
- competency and equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Current knowledge of best practices in mental health (e.g., crisis deescalation, suicide
- prevention, harm reduction, child abuse, and gender-based violence).
  • Ability to provide counselling in a second language, such as Spanish, Tamil, French,
  • Mandarin, Cantonese, Somali, Arabic, is a strong asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
