Job Summary and Requirements

This posting will be used to fill 1 permanent full-time positions working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Dawson in the beautiful Yukon.

Your role


The Family Resource Worker is responsible for providing and maintaining a culturally appropriate, home based support services and groups for caregivers with children aged 0-19 within Yukon.

The position works to strengthen the caregiver-child relationship by improving parenting skills, reducing caregiver stress, and addressing the needs of caregivers to promote a safe and healthy environment for children and their caregivers.

The position works closely with other government and non-government resources in the provision and coordination of services to the child(ren) and families.

Essential qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

Completion of Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma or Degree in a related field, such as Psychology.
Experience working collaboratively with parents to strengthen the parent-child relationship by improving parenting skill.
Experience identifying risks to families and children
Experience assisting parents in learning problem-solving and coping skills by teaching and modelling appropriate and positive parenting life skills.
Experience facilitating groups would be an asset
Experience maintaining client records in an electronic management system.

Proven ability to build rapport and trust in relationships with clients, collaterals, and stakeholders.

Awareness of child protection and Child and Family Services Act.

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

Criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector
Valid Yukon class 5 drivers' licence or equivalent
A negative test result on TB screening

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
Work evenings and weekends
Travel throughout territory in adverse weather conditions
Possible exposure to second hand smoke
Home visits to client homes
