Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care London.

ICES KDT operates out of ICES Western, a satellite site of ICES in Toronto which officially launched in 2012. ICES Western is located within London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. The analyst is an employee of LHSC and Lawson Health Research Institute.


NOTE:
Our office is temporarily working remotely to protect the health and safety of our employees. As such, this position is currently working remotely within Ontario for an undetermined period.

A presence at our office in London, Ontario may be expected in the future and is a requirement of the role.


Rate of Pay:
To commensurate with experience


Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week


Duration:
One year, with potential for renewal


Responsiblities

  • Participating in the development of study designs and analytic plans;
  • Developing SAS programs to extract, merge and manipulate data from existing ICES databases to create study cohorts;
  • Conducting exploratory and statistical analyses, preparing and reviewing analytic outputs;
  • Engaging with the project team to provide advice on research feasibility, design, methodology, availability of ICES data and interpretation of findings;
  • Contributing to reports, abstracts, peerreviewed publications and other relevant deliverables, in collaboration with principal investigators;
  • Coordinating projects and facilitating communication between investigators, trainees and staff;
  • Contributing to a body of knowledge around variable definitions, macros and templates, analytical approaches or limitations in our data and resolving data issues as they arise;
  • Continuing to maintain and expand professional skills;
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and necessary for the efficient functioning of the team.

Qualifications:


  • BSc. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or related field, with a thorough understanding of biostatistical analytic techniques (MSc or PhD preferred);
  • At least one year of experience in a health facility or health research environment, with similar involvement in identifying or working with administrative data sources, designing research studies, procuring data, preparing reports, and editing with scientific rigour;
  • Strong desire to function in an environment that requires constant adaptation to changing organizational needs and reprioritizing workload to accommodate;
  • Extreme comfort when expected to produce high levels of output;
  • Functions best in an environment that requires independence and where expectations are that staff understand risk management;
  • Knowledge of health services research concepts as well as epidemiologic study design and analysis with administrative data;
  • Experience with multiple types of statistical analysis, including logistic regression, Poisson regression, negative binomial regression, categorical data analysis, survival analysis, and predictive modelling;
  • Ability to apply, learn and understand new and existing statistical methods to studies as appropriate;
  • Demonstrated skill at merging data from multiple sources and working with large, complex datasets;
  • Strong quantitative experience using SAS statistical software including competence in SQL, macro writing and statistical analysis of data;
  • Attention to detail particularly when following study protocols, developing data measures and resolving data anomalies;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Immunization Requirements

  • Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
  • Provide proof of Health Canadaapproved COVID19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health's current definition of being fully vaccinated
