Accounting Assistant Ii - Sherwood Park, Canada - Strathcona County

This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 12 months
The Accounting Assistant II provides department support for the daily, monthly and annual functions and activities for the Transportation Engineering and Operations (TEO) department related to the financial operation activities for a budget in excess of $35 million.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare operational accounting information to ensure accuracy and consistency between cost centers
- Act as receiving agent on larger scale rental and material purchases orders, including blanket purchase orders
- Complete internal chargeback and external RFIs as required for work completed by TEO operations
- Maintain, track, and reconcile computer and mobile phone equipment inventory
- Keep in communication with department administrators as computer/mobile phone equipment requirements arise (includes onboarding and offboarding requirements)
- Ensure proper coding for mobile phone billing based on branch users
- Request and maintain business activity numbers for internal/external chargeback billings and to track program costs for reporting
- Record, reconcile, and maintain various financial tracking documents including contractor tickets, boot allowance, subscriptions, professional memberships, and professional development
- Track and reconcile employee vehicle log book
- Process and track expenditures, analyze purchase requisitions, prepare bank deposits and create journal entries
- Submit nonpurchase order invoices for payment
- Complete the month end airport fuel sales journal entry
- Order department supplies (does not include general office supplies) that cannot be placed on a purchase requisition, as required
- Provide back up coverage for the Accounting Assistant II with time entry
- Other related duties which include (but not limited to) vacation coverage, ad hoc projects and reporting as required
Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and timelines
- Effective organizational, time management and multitasking skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills in dealing with vendors, union field staff, supervisors/management, and internal/external staff
- Ability to handle confidential information with judgement and discretion
- Knowledge of Strathcona County organization, processes and procedures is an asset
Qualifications
- Minimum High School Diploma plus 5 years related experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field is preferred
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and Oracle Financial System to utilize, analyze, and process pertinent information accurately is preferred
