We are seeking an innovative and collaborative Strategic Communications Manager,
who will plan, develop and implement customized, proactive fundraising/advancement communications.
This work will advance university priorities and further support the goals of University Advancement, specifically the Development team, in conjunction with the Advancement Communications team, within Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs. The role manages the inception and creation of a variety of content to support strategic priorities.

This role collaborates regularly with colleagues in University Advancement, specifically Development and deals with confidential and highly sensitive information, issuing a variety of communications on behalf of the University.

The Manager, Strategic Communications is a dynamic and experienced communicator, responsible for managing advancement communications on behalf of the University.


Made up of high-performing, experienced communications professionals, the Advancement Communications team within Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs is focused on producing creative, customized, digital-first content that connects with audiences and supports the strategic goals of University Advancement, specifically the Development team.

We value innovation and collaboration and are constantly exploring and experimenting with new storytelling methods while working with teams across the university to deliver outstanding funder-focused communications and programming.

Development is responsible for strengthening McMaster's relationships, securing gifts, pledges, estate gifts, and other forms of private revenue and developing a pipeline of funders and supporters for the university.

The primary means of raising funds ranges from broad-based, multi-channel fundraising approaches to face-to-face meetings and visits, often involving university leadership and faculty members.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Advancement Communications, within Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs, the Manager, Strategic Communications will build and preserve the University's reputation through a variety of internal and external advancement communication strategies and materials, including digital media.

This position is responsible for planning, developing and implementing customized, proactive fundraising/advancement communications.

Accountabilities:


  • Accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining creative and compelling University communication initiatives and materials for use in digital, print and broadcast environments
  • Develops and implements communication strategies and materials that support University funding priorities and key audiences and partners
  • Possesses superior writing and storytelling skills for the creation of materials such as funding proposals, white papers, concept documents, reports, presentations, personalized communications, etc.
