    Job Summary

    The Department of Urology provides urologic care to the province, as well as is very involved in the education of medical students and post graduate residents. It also is involved with many research activities. Reporting to the Head, Department of Urology, the Administrator is responsible for the financial management of all accounts related to the Department of Urology including the University operating budget, NS Health, Annual Givings, QE2 Foundation, Annual Givings, Departmental the, Resident's budget and accounts, and research accounts. This position also holds managerial oversight of two clerical employees.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Develop annual departmental budget including identifying Department priorities and plans financial resources accordingly.
  • Completes periodic reviews of the Department operating budget, using variance analysis techniques. Utilizes effective strategies to decrease expenses/increase revenue.
  • Responsible for the accounting of overall department finances, developing appropriate procedures as required.
  • Manage the annual budget cycle, monitor results throughout the year and identify and investigate significant variances. Report any major discrepancies to the Department Head.
  • Manages and oversees all recruiting, hiring and retention of employees and independent contractors in the department and its projects (Faculty and support staff).
  • Plan, develop, and document administrative policies and standard operating procedures, and educate and advise staff on processes and practices.
  • Note

    Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

    Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with approximately three to five years' of progressive experience in financial administration and management (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated initiative, and exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills working with individuals at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Outlook and the demonstrated ability to learn new technology and programs.
  • Assets

  • Experience in a academic health care and/or not for profit environment.
  • Experience in Sage 50, Banner, SAP databases.
