ABOUT OPPI


The Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is the recognized voice of Ontario's planning profession with over 4,600 members who work in government, private practice, universities, and not-for-profit agencies in the fields of urban and rural development, community design, environmental planning, transportation, health, social services, heritage conservation, housing, and economic development.

Our student members attend undergraduate and graduate planning programs at six accredited Ontario universities.


Members must meet quality practice requirements and are accountable to OPPI and the public to practice ethically and to abide by a Professional Code of Practice.

Only full OPPI members are authorized by the Ontario Professional Planners Institute Act, 1994, to use the title Registered Professional Planner (or RPP).

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


The
Strategy &
Communications Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that Communications endeavours at OPPI are well-supported and that the Strategy & Communications Manager is always able to meet the organizational goals they are responsible for.

Combining solid administrative skills with a flair for the creative, the individual in this role is a key contributor to the implementation and success of communications and marketing strategies across the organization.

As the Strategy & Communications Coordinator, your duties will include but not limited to:


  • Newsletters
  • Create and distribute regular newsletters to membership base, including promoting newsletter content through the OPPI website and social media channels.

Social media

  • Manage social media accounts, prepare content calendars, and draft messages promoting current news and activities.

Website

  • Oversee the daytoday management of OPPI website, including editing, updating, and developing new content throughout the year.

Planners Connect

  • Own member engagement platform by coordinating and crafting content through discussion boards on planningrelated topics.

Job Postings

  • Manage job board including editing and approving job postings, as well as responding to inquiries and requests.
  • Perform other duties as required to achieve organizational goals.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Postsecondary degree in Communications, Journalism or Public relations or equivalent in experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and webbased tools, including database management, SharePoint, and website navigation.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, CMS, Google Analytics, and CP Style are considered assets.
  • Working knowledge of online newsletters, websites, social media, document management tools/platforms and communication platforms such as Survey Monkey and Constant Contact
  • 13 years of relevant work experience

TASK & TIME ALLOCATION

  • 70% Publication and Content generation (creation of both print and digital creative assets using creative suite, or Canva, including photo/video editing, posting on online platforms including social media, generation of short
- and long-form written communications for internal and external publication) and providing events support for promotional materials and in-person as needed.

  • 30% Research & Analysis (collaboration with Communications & Marketing Manager, development of Communications calendar, strategic planning for marketing initiatives, tracking & analyzing performance data)

Physical / Environment:
Office

90% Stationary Position, operate a computer / phone

10% Move/Traverse, attend internal and external meetings.


Hours of Work:
Core business hours of the Institute are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Staff are expected to work 35 hours per week within these core business hours.
