    Position Description

    The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University invites applications for a teaching-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Finance and Business Economics Area. The position will begin on July 1, 2024.

    The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the School's academic programs at both of the School's Hamilton and Burlington locations. The primary responsibility is to teach a variety of courses at undergraduate and master's levels, including large sections of Introduction to Finance (2FA3). The teaching requirement is normally eight sections per academic year. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to keep abreast of developments in the discipline, participate in the ongoing development of curricula, serve on internal committees, and support the School's initiatives within the business, academic and other external communities. Conducting pedagogical research is also encouraged.

    Strong preference will be given to candidates who have a doctoral degree in Finance or Financial Economics from an accredited institution. Candidates with a Master's degree in Finance or Financial Economics and significant professional or teaching experience may also be considered. The candidate must demonstrate a record of teaching excellence and a strong commitment to innovation in teaching. Candidates who hold professional designations (e.g. CFA), have experience teaching large classes, or have professional experience are also preferred.

    The Finance and Business Economics Area, the largest of eight Areas comprising the DeGroote School of Business, is committed to excellence in both research and teaching. The School offers a number of programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Finance and Business Economics Area participates in these programs in several ways, and mounts MBA specializations in Finance and Strategic Business Valuation, a Master of Finance program, and a Ph.D. field in Finance.
