- Ensuring all facilities are cleaned (vacuum, mop, dust, and wash) regularly as required. This includes public space as well as all offices and classrooms.
- Sanctuary specific – weekly cleaning including vacuuming, organizing song books and Bibles in pews, dusting, organizing chairs in songster and band locations.
- Ensuring washrooms are cleaned and stocked regularly.
- Collect and remove garbage as required.
- Weekly mopping of gym floor
- Set up for various ministries (Women's Ministries, Grow With Me, Sunday School, board meetings, weddings and funerals); unset when each of the ministries are finished.
- Lawn care regularly during season
- Snow and ice removal from all entrances and walkways as required in season.
- Painting as required.
- Report all building issues (safety and security, preventative maintenance, significant repairs) to supervisor.
- Check building daily for light bulbs and fluorescent tubes that are out and change as required
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Have the ability to work within a Christian faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision, and values of The Salvation Army
- Have completed Public School
- Have cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures.
- Have physical effort/dexterity for mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, etc.
- Obtain a Criminal Police/Vulnerable Sector Check and clearance through The Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry
- Be willing to sign The Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form

The primary responsibility of the janitor is the cleanliness and upkeep of both the interior and exterior of the building in compliance with applicable standards; however, the janitor is to be alert to any and all conditions within and around the building that would reflect this sense of pride to all who use the building.
