General Summary of Job

Woodley Acres Pet Resort is an established 24/7/365 days a year pet care facility providing exceptional petcare to pets and their families.

We offer a variety of services to our clients including overnight care, a structured, controlled, and safe dog daycare program and basic grooming servicdes.

We continually strive to raise the bar for expectations as they relate to petcare in our community.

The Pet Care Specialist is responsible for the supervision, control and management of lodging and daycare dogs/cats and ensuring the safety and security of our guests.

Additionally, the Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the suites/Cat condos as well as other areas of the facility as assigned.

The Pet Care Specialist works under and reports to the supervision of the Operations Supervisor.

Primary Duties

  • Dog Management
  • Interact with dogs at play using appropriate toys and tools to ensure safe levels of play and minimizing stress levels of all dogs. Maintain visual observation of dogs at all times and spread attention and play among all dogs with close attention to playtimes and schedules.
  • Control level of play by following dog management and control procedures and instructions provided by management.
  • Use proper dog handling techniques including use of kennel leads to transfer dogs.
  • Use proper dog introduction procedures.
  • Use appropriate praise and dog redirection methods.
  • Ensure you know all dogs in play areas assigned and can properly identify them. If not, request assistance from the Operations Supervisor.
  • Watch all new dogs carefully and immediately consult with Operations Supervisor if you have concerns. For all dogs/cats in lodging and care; report any unusual behavior, or eliminations and injuries to the Operations Supervisor immediately.
  • Review special needs list and manage dogs as instructed. Complete the individualized care logs for all dogs in lodging/daycare/ and standalone services as indicated and/or assigned.
  • Ensure staff that relieve you for break or shift change know all dogs in assigned area, the special needs dog status and any unusual behaviors or concerns you have been managing during your shift. If the next shift staff is not available, update the Operations Supervisor before leaving.
  • Plan how dogs will be put in enclosures for meals in accordance to facility policies & procedures. Consult the Operations Supervisor if you have concerns on being able to put all dogs away properly in your area.
  • Review daily tasks on live whiteboard in the grand hall and on daily worksheets before start of shift and comply with instructions. Review dog profile and daily logs of any dog you do not know prior to starting shift.
  • Complete dog incident reports timely when required. If you are not sure whether a report is required check with the Operations Supervisor.
  • Complete maintenance or repair reports as needed. Immediately report any out of stock items to Floater or Operations Supervisor.
  • Lodging Dog Duties
  • Provide potty breaks and exercise for lodging dogs as assigned and per facility protocol. Potty area visits should be a minimum of 10 minutes per dog per session (2 potty area visits per day). Document on guest log results of each potty break.
  • Maintain each pet's suite to ensure that the dog has water and the room is clean and dry 4 times daily. Report any damage to suite to the Operations Supervisor and complete a work order. Timely documentation is expected on their guest log.
  • Perform lodging dog exercise sessions as well as daycare programming and give treats as assigned. Be sure to sign off on the guest log and each dog's lodging report that tasks have been completed.
  • Ensure that potty area and room areas are clean at end of assignment.
  • Floater and Cleaning Duties
  • Complete daily worksheet Checklist. Turn in completed checklist at end of shift. Advise Operations Supervisor or management of any incomplete duties that will need attention.
  • Complete cleaning duties as assigned and indicate proper completion by marking on the whiteboard in the cattery.
  • Maintenance potty areas in accordance to procedures.
  • Report supplies needed to Operations Supervisor prior to running completely out of item.
  • Cattery and other animal care duties
  • Clean and maintain cattery as outlined on guest log. Initial form to indicate tasks were completed.
  • Provide care or potty breaks to other dogs as assigned (puppies, groom dogs, etc).
