Eye of Newt Books publishes a range of strange and unusual illustrated books for all age groups. From nonfiction board books to illustrated, fantasy world-building projects, Eye of Newt is a niche publisher here in Toronto.

As
Publishing Manager at Eye of Newt Books your day-to-day will be dynamic and full. You'll focus on being the manager of operations on every book project, Kickstarter campaign, and event that Newt attends. You will run weekly meetings with the publishers, oversee the house's workback schedule, and ensure operations run smoothly.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Work with the owners to development and maintain Eye of Newt's list of books and offering publishing support for a list of 6 books per year.
  • Establishing and maintaining schedules and project milestones for multiple concurrent projects while ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Actively engage with writers, editors, illustrators, and the creator community via social media and events.
  • Receive manuscripts, pursue publisher projects, acquire books, and develop projects through all stages of publication from development to publication in cooperation with the publishing and production team.
  • Oversee distributor and sales rep relationships, updating book metadata regularly, updating the sales team when necessary, and presenting titles to the sales team.
  • Manage the company sales points: Shopify and Kickstarter/ PledgeManager, customer service, and order fulfillment as needed.
  • Awareness of business operations costs; must be budget conscious and be able to create P&L statements, monthly financial reports, and coordinate endofyear financials with a professional accountant.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Previous experience in magazine, book, or Web editorial production an asset; a publishing certificate an asset.
  • Management and project management experience an asset.
  • Strong project management skills with a proven track record of successfully bringing projects from inception to completion.
  • A degree (e.g., BA, BS) in English, journalism, communications, or the humanities is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills are essential.
  • Ability to prioritize a variety of projects and work in and lead the team at a fast pace.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various creators and teams.
  • Excellent relationshipbuilder; current connections within the small work of Canadian publishing an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat are essential.
  • Proficiency in CoreSource, iPage, BooksOnix an asset.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms an asset.
