Job Number:49417**The individual in this role will be accountable to the organization to ensure that sound research methodologies are implemented in each assigned research project in order to maintain the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality while producing valid results and evidence-based recommendations with the potential for broad organizational impact


Responsibilities include:

  • Devise and implement optimum methodologies to enable robust research into a vareity of topics that impact and influence management decision making.
  • Develop and implement research plans to address specific organizational priorities or questions.
  • Conduct enviromental scans to include demographic, polticial, economic, social, technological, legal, and enviromental factors, among others impacting policing.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and developments relevant to policing broadly and the EPS.
  • Conduct literature reviews, maintaining access to a variety of resources, including online peerreviewed journals and articles, databases, discussion forums, etc.
  • Utliize a varitey of qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques (i.e. surveys, interviews, program data and records review, etc.) to achieve research outcomes.
  • Analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and material to assess interrelationships of variables and evaluate the significance of findings.
  • Author briefing notes and reports to document and communicate the findings/recommendations of research studies to internal stakeholders, including executive members.
  • Effectively communicate research findings to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Meet with internal stakeholders to discuss findings/recommendations of research studies and potential impacts of implementing modifications to programs/policies/procedures based on research results.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with academia, law enforcement, and other appropriate institutions to support research and innovation in the EPS
  • Act as the primary initial point of contact for research requests, including those received from other law enforcement agencies, to determine the most appropriate method for responding to the request.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship on researchrelated topics to other members in the service.
  • Ensure FOIPP Unit is consulted to mitigate any potential privacy risks associated with proposed research and data being requested.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and ensure that research activities comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Upon the successful completion of research protocol projects, ensure documentation of research results are appropriately maintained and shared throughout the organization in a way that allows for impacted business areas to benefit from the results and findings.
  • Conduct research that impacts strategic planning and operational decisionmaking.
  • Assess proposed research methodologies to determine potential for valueadded results.
  • Facilitate workshops and sessions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum four (4) years of work experience in the field of research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, performance measurement, and either program analysis or strategic planning.
  • Extensive working knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, statistical techniques, and evaluation methods are required.
  • High degree of proficiency in verbal and written communication, which includes experience in facilitation and leading workshops and meetings with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in developing environmental scans for internal and external usage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, statistical analysis software such as R, SAS, SPSS, and qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo.

  • As part of your prehire screening, you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
