- extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
- knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
- qualifications, training, and successful experience in teaching elementary music (choral and instruments) using the Fine Arts curriculum
- knowledge of methods for selecting, modifying, and adapting music materials to meet the needs of diverse groups of students K – Grade 5 (especially Grades K-1)
- commitment to creating opportunities for students to perform (musical theatre, school concerts and community events)
- experience and commitment to planning and leading musical productions and drama performances
- demonstrated ability to effectively instruct music to a wide range of ages and ability levels from Grades K-5 including rhythm instruments
- demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- experience leading choir
- demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate and manage a preparation time schedule that requires excellent classroom management, flexibility, organizational skills, and communication skills
- demonstrated ability to effectively address a wide range of academic social, emotional, and behavioural needs of children
- commitment to the "inclusion" of students with special needs and supporting education assistants in a Music Program
- ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents
