Associate Chair - MBA Program


Location:
Vancouver, BC (Vancouver House campus, Hybrid)


Primary Purpose


Reporting to the MBA program Chairs, the Associate Chair of the Master of Business Administration program is responsible for providing strategic direction, planning, and management.

This includes ensuring the coherence of the MBA degree program, curriculum design and development including the assessment of program learning outcomes, establishment and oversight of program delivery in all available modes (e.g., f2f, formal online), support of full-time and sessional faculty, instituting curricular pathways within UCW and program specializations, negotiating partnerships and articulation agreements, and building relevant industry contacts and networks.


Responsibilities

  • Coordinating with the three departments responsible for the MBA program in line with its current and evolving mission and goals
  • Working with the Chairs to establish academic goals and plans for the MBA program
  • Working with Chairs and Academic Affairs to oversee faculty recruitment and ensure appropriate faculty complement for MBA courses
  • Representing the MBA program in interactions with the corporate community, alumni, and current and prospective MBA students
  • Collaborating with UCW and GUS peers to drive program marketing, recruitment and enrollment of qualified students to achieve annual targets Conducting open houses, meeting with prospective students and serving as a spokesperson
  • Assisting Chairs with budget and operations and the management of financial performance and enrolments
  • Working with the Chairs and the academic department on the hiring of sessional faculty
  • Coordinating and participating in assessment, accreditation, curriculum review, and compliance processes
  • Working with both internal (faculty) and external (employers) stakeholders to develop and enhance course content and coverage, opportunities for students, program delivery, and marketability
  • Contributing to decisionmaking regarding student academic performance, admission and transfer credit, academic advising, student appeals, student discipline, policy exceptions, etc.
  • Establishing consultation with the postsecondary community and other related programs through associations such as the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) to achieve collaboration and articulation agreements, and to promote the reputation of the program
  • Coordinating curricular and extracurricular work experience activities Initiating and facilitating student learning experiences outside the classroom (e.g., case competition, student clubs, guest speakers, field trips etc.
  • Providing regular reports and internal communications regarding the MBA
  • Teaching at least one course, with specific teaching responsibilities to be set in consultation with the Chairs and VP

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Skills

  • MBA, or Master's degree in a related area (business, management, or education)
  • 3 years related MBA program experience or work experience in management and/or professional positions
  • Minimum 5 years experience teaching in a related program; online or blended delivery an asset
  • Experience with postsecondary articulation and transfer credit
  • Experience with program proposals and degree granting regulatory bodies
  • Knowledge of MBA markets, leading practices, and accreditation standards
  • Demonstrated ability to support and facilitate services and resources for faculty and professional staff effectively and to coordinate with other program faculty and administrators
  • Experience in strategic planning and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders with tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking related to curriculum analysis and review, research and evaluation, strategic planning and budget analysis
  • Ability to represent the MBA program and UCW professionally and with integrity
  • Ability to build and sustain constructive, open, and friendly, professional relationships with faculty, staff and internal and external colleagues, industry contacts, and government officials
