Summary:


Reporting to the Leader, Plant Services (or designate) in compliance with applicable codes and regulations performs trade duties approaching the journeyman level in installing, renovating and performing maintenance duties related to the buildings, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.


Qualifications / Skills and Education:

Education
Grade 10, plus four years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs plumbing fixtures and systems such as taps, sinks, and toilets by extending and/or changing water supply and waste lines and fitting pipes.
  • Performs electrical and mechanical repairs to equipment such as autoclaves, washers, sterilizers and dryers by replacing and/or repairing items such as drive units, electrical motors and control valves, changing seals and bearings and installing water lines and drains.
  • Performs minor renovations and roof repairs and minor construction demolitions.
  • Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment. Recommends repairs and purchases as required.
  • Supervises Maintenance Workers and other designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, evaluating employee performance and determining related training and orientation requirements.
  • Tidies building shop, storage rooms, building grounds, wipes off equipment, and disposes of materials as per established guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
