Description
Collaborate with Operations Manager to plan and implement a program of scheduled preventative maintenance for buses and fleet vehicles

  • Test drive buses and other fleet vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly; appropriate driver's license required
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform mechanical repairs on buses and fleet vehicles
  • Respond to emergency service calls for stranded buses and other vehicles
  • Estimate time, material, and equipment needed for assigned jobs
  • Make recommendations to the Manager for ordering and stocking repair parts and supplies
  • Maintain the shop area in a clean, orderly and safe condition
  • Maintain maintenance and repair records for the vehicles in the fleet
  • Perform complete safety inspections as required
  • Operate buses and fleet vehicles as required
  • Write requisitions, order parts, and ensure parts are received and entered into inventory in a timely manner
  • Coach and instruct apprentice mechanics as assigned
  • Adhere to WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety legislative requirements; wear protective equipment at all times in the garage
  • Other duties as required

Required Qualifications:


  • 5+ year(s) experience as heavy equipment mechanic
  • 310T licence
  • 310S licence is an asset
  • Past experience working on school buses is an asset
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and other database programs
  • WHMIS certification, First Aid certification and Health & Safety training is an asset

Work Environment

  • Garage is located in Perth, ON
  • Garage environment; exposure to and working with a variety of chemicals
  • Fastpaced environment; may experience frequent interruptions
  • Manual dexterity and handeye coordination
  • Standing, pushing, pulling, bending, crouching, reaching, laying under vehicles for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs
  • Driving is required
  • Overtime may be required to meet business needs
