To support us on our journey, Sinai Health System is looking for a
Diet Technician to support our
Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank at our Mount Sinai Hospital Location.


Responsibilities:


  • Document Daily Temperature for all fridges, freezers and dish machine
  • Disinfect and Sanitize Pasteurizer
  • Set up room for milk preparation.i.e. pooling, cultures and aliqouting with required amount of flasks for each donor and for pooling, sterile bottles and pipettes according to recipe
  • Accurately weigh, measure and prepare batches for pasteurization
  • Prepare labels to identify mother's milk for each deposits and document in Timeless Milk management software.
Number and weight of milk volumes per deposit.

  • Communicate with lactation consultants, coworkers, and moms to ensure accurate milk preparation, collection and storage
  • Answer Milk Bank phone line, retrieve phone messages and return calls or redirect to Lactation Consultants as required
  • Print LIS label for pool and batch cultures. Print Post pasteurization (batch) bottle labels
  • Collect culture samples from pool into labeled test tube and cryovial using appropriate aseptic technique
  • Label culture tubes and place in specimen bags, take to
fridge and both cryovial to freezer and place in pool pre-culture bin in designated bag of the month- Using Timeless software - generate batch labels for post pasteurization milk and move milk from freezer to fridge

  • Document number of bottles pasteurized onto batch sheet
  • Take all culture samples to the lab on the 14 floor by 16:30 hours
  • Maintain daily inventory arid stock of all needed supplies and equipment required for human milk collections, preparations and storage
  • Create online pickup/delivery orders thorough Chasquis/Fed Ex
  • Send milk collection kits to donors via courier services
  • Package and dispense human donor milk using Timeless Milk Bank Management System software to hospitals in Ontario as per received orders
  • Report any unsafe situation to the Milk Bank Product Supervisor or Director


  • Job Requirements

  • Food and Nutrition Degree/Diploma from a recognized university or community college
  • Food Safety Training Certificate
  • Recent Diet Technician experience in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of safe food handling procedures
  • Canadian Society of Nutrition Management membership an asset
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to liaise with all health professionals and patient

  • Demonstrated attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Advanced computer skills and familiarity with Timeless software
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Capable to work under pressure and meet time deadlines as part of a team or independently
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time doing repetitive action, bend, push and lift up to 20 pounds
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
