Description

Answering to the Product Engineer, TORMAX Canada, the CAD Technician (Vancouver) will work closely with our sale team, our operations team and our Swiss based product engineering team to perform detailed product fabrication and installation drawing packages.

We are looking for an experienced, confident, results driven, electro-mechanical or building products CAD technician.


Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Develop new product fabrication drawings using AutoCAD or Solidworks.
  • Utilizing drawing templates to produce site and product specific shop drawings for architectural and customer approvals.
  • Contribute 2D and 3D product drawings for the Architectural design catalog and other marketing requirements.
  • Collaborate with the sales team and customers to identify potential new products or options and drive the innovation or enhancement of existing products.
  • Evaluate drawings for accuracy with customer requirements and compliance with drawings standards.
  • Work closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information and are error free.
  • Assist the Product Engineer with new product testing programs, confirming compliance with all regulatory requirements for TCA products, Building codes, ANSI, and CSA, etc.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the role as may be assigned from time to time by management.
  • Ensure final designs comply with fabrication constraints and quality standards.
  • Produce Bill of Materials for each design to assist the Workshop Manager and purchasing team.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum twoyear drafting certificate with a proficiency in AutoCAD or Solidworks. An Architectural Technical certificate would be considered an asset.
  • 13 years prior work experience in a manufacturing or design engineering environment
  • Experience with BIM, Revit and 3D modelling would be considered a strong asset.
  • Good understanding of architectural and glazing system drawings.
  • Able to create documentation packages and drawings sets.

Preferred Competencies

  • Have a problemsolving work ethic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of construction site best practises and B2B customer needs.
  • Knowledge in entrance automation and other barrier free product lines.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) with a user's knowledge of ERP systems such as Navision.
  • Detailoriented and ability to deliver time sensitive projects.

  • Excellent communication skills in English (both verbal and written)
  • The ability to converse in Canadian French would also be considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills with a positive attitude
