About MRU:


Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009.

About the Transitional Vocational Program (TVP):

Mount Royal University's Transitional Vocational Program provides a variety of unique post-secondary programs that foster personal, professional, and academic growth for adults with developmental disabilities.

The Employment Preparation Certificate program was established in 1980 and has, with continuous development, evaluation and change, supported students to find and maintain competitive employment.

Through excellence, innovation and leadership the full-time Employment Preparation Certificate program has become highly regarded and socially valued. Entrance into this program can be very competitive.


About the Role:

We are seeking an instructor with the ability to teach the following course(s):


Novel and Literature:


Days & Times Offered:
Class runs Thursdays 10am - 12pm.


Course Description:

Students will learn how to read a novel and poetry with deeper understanding by studying the way a novel is put together.

They will learn the different ways a poem can be written and why. Class time will include presentation work, drama, and viewing activities in groups and individually as well as reading.

Class runs Thursdays 1pm - 3pm.


Course Description:
This course will teach adults with developmental disabilities how to manage friendships and romantic relationships.

Students will learn how to interact with friends, acquaintances and strangers in an appropriate manner, and how to maintain relationships.


Responsibilities:


  • Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outline, course activities, lesson preparation and assessments, and course site; and
  • Administration: submit course attendance sheets, course outline signature forms, input final grades upon course completion, and participate in scheduled program meetings.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum educational requirements: Bachelor of Education
  • Skilled in modifying instruction to meet student need
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities
  • Experience using computers and technology as a teaching tool, specifically the Google Platform
  • Experience with formative and summative assessment
  • Proven skills in classroom management

Salary:
$45.00 per hour
