Why is this role important?

  • The Manager is responsible for strategic planning and providing advice and guidance for Health Workforce Information (HWI) Data Development, in alignment with branch and corporate plans and priorities. The Manager operates as an agent for change and demonstrates vision for continuous improvement. The Manager is responsible for leading, managing, and evaluating all activities related to the portfolio and establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. The Manager oversees all projects within the portfolio, related to new HWI data advancement and data discovery.
  • What you'll do
  • 1. Leads and manages new data advancement and discovery for HWI related data and builds out the HWI data foundation with a focus on data standards and infrastructure.
  • 2. Plans for and manages daytoday data development activities of the department and stewards all projects of the portfolio, ensuring that deliverables are met according to CIHI's Operational Plan and Budget, and that all corporate and special purpose reporting is completed.
  • 3. Leads and motivates the team; provides clear direction; effectively delegates and monitors performance results; motivates and develops others to go above and beyond; supports others through change; makes decisions that balance the best interests of the team, the organization and its stakeholders; and leads by example by living CIHI's core values.
  • 4. Develops the budget, operational and strategic plans in collaboration with the HWI Management team, reflecting priority needs of key stakeholders. Monitors progress ensuring projects and quality products are delivered on time and within budget.
  • 5. Provides key information, recommendations, and ongoing progress reports to the Director to ensure effective communication of relevant activities. Makes timely and informed decisions, and considers facts, short
- and long-term corporate priorities, constraints and risks; and uses sound judgment to develop plans and recommendations to resolve problems.

  • 6. Leads and/or supports change initiatives effectively and in alignment with corporate direction. Manages change goals and strategies and leads the acceptance of change within the database operations team. Implements structures and processes for planning and managing the implementation of change.
  • 7. Collaborates closely with HWI peer managers, as well as across branches, and divisions, as required, and ensures coordination of linked products and services. Develops and fosters relationships with existing and potential HWI data providers to assess needs and pursue business opportunities consistent with CIHI's strategic goals.
  • 8. Coordinates and supports committees and expert groups relevant to the portfolio, as appropriate. Participates in external meetings and prepares documentation as required.
  • What you'll bring to the table
  • Master's degree in a health sciences, health administration, health systems, or health profession or equivalent education/experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience leading and/or working with data standards and/or data assets, including data standard/database development activities.
  • Minimum 3 years of people and budget management experience. Experience leading crossfunctional teams.
  • Experience managing complex projects with various stakeholder groups.
  • Experience in strategic planning and the translation of strategic directions into concrete actionable plans.
  • Awareness and understanding of structure of Canada's health system as well as issues relevant to priority health policies.
