Overview:


The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will be responsible for the preparation of payroll earning statement and ensuring all employees are paid correctly and in a timely manner, and the administration of the Company Benefits program.

Partner with management to identify problems, find solutions, facilitate changes, train, and analyze data to help secure an accurate payroll.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for managing salaried and hourly payroll for designated divisions; including entry, transmission & submission and ensuring payroll is completed on time and with accuracy in accordance with statutory requirements, and internal controls
  • Input new hires in the payroll system making sure all paperwork is completed accurately
  • Manage relationship and work closely with our 3rd party providers (payroll, benefits, etc.) to quickly troubleshoot issues
  • Draft related correspondence including but not limited to Employment Verifications, Benefits Enrollment and changes
  • Prepare and issue ROEs and respond to CRA inquiries in a timely manner
  • Prepare year end reporting including T4's, T2200's
  • Upon hire of new employee and termination, establish that all relevant benefit information are handled
  • Provide high quality Employee service by ensuring timely resolution of Employee payroll, benefit and system inquiries

Additional Primary Responsibilities:


  • Reconcile 3rd party payments against employee deductions on a monthly and ad hoc basis and liaise with Accounting
  • Review and input any employee changes (salary, branch, job, address, etc.)
  • Review, input, and verify garnishments setup and payments
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 35 years of experience in a Payroll Coordinator or similar role, in a multijurisdictional payroll environment
  • Completion of diploma or degree in Canadian Payroll Administration or related field High school diploma or equivalency
  • Demonstrated functional knowledge of payroll concepts, compliances, practices, and procedures
  • Strong communication skills written, verbal, persuasion, motivation, facilitation of strong working relationships


  • Professional Payroll Certification

  • FPC or CPP or actively working toward obtaining professional payroll certification
  • Two (2) years of experience processing payroll utilizing SAP, specifically in the areas of transaction management, OM/PA processing payroll, running reports, translating results tables, and knowledge of wage types

Physical Demands:


  • Physical demands with activity or condition for a considerable amount of time may include sitting and typing/keyboarding using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor) or adding machine
  • Physical demands with activity or condition may include walking, bending, reaching, standing, squatting, and stooping
  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
