Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Documentation_
  • Ensure corrective actions identified within the HSE Management System are assigned, completed and closed out as appropriate.
  • Conduct the yearly COR Audit and report all recommendations to senior leadership
  • Develop yearly forecast related to COR and Health and Safety programming with KPI's
  • Review DMI's yearly Experience Rating Performance and its 3 year cycle and report trends and corrective actions to the Injury Management Program
  • Leadership_
  • Support a Safety culture that encompasses the highest ethical standards aligned with the organization.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the Buildings HSE programs and initiatives (this includes all warehouse/racking inspections and emergency planning)
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure HSE standards are communicated, implemented and measured., including meeting monthly at the BCCSA provincial offices
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Provide personnel with all necessary information, instruction, training, and supervision to protect their health and safety
  • Act as a trusted leader to those on the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and those in the Health and Safety Department
  • WorkSafeBC_
  • Ensure investigations and reporting is occurring as required by WorkSafeBC and the Health and Safety Program
  • Participate in and coordinate activities required of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification.
  • Participates in onsite investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken.
  • Ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC and business safety requirements
  • Training_
  • Ensure all new hire safety orientations are completed as per WorkSafeBC regulations
  • Ensure all new employees are provide with the necessary job specific PPE
  • Ensure all new employees complete a fit test prior to entering a job site
  • Health and Safety_
  • Visit each company warehouse and office bimonthly to complete safety inspections
  • Visit all major sites weekly to complete safety inspections, assist with toolbox talks, and build rapport with all subtrades
  • Ensure that incident investigations are completed in a timely manner and the results, including corrective actions, are communicated to Senior Management and appropriate stakeholders.
  • Assist with the organization of all Gradual Return to Work Plans
  • Act as a level 2 First Aid Attendant
  • Oversees the tracking and ordering of all safety supplies for sites and offices
  • Schedule and lead all annual safety drills
  • Ensure that self and others adhere to Canstar's health and safety practices and procedures
  • Ensure good housekeeping is kept to perform work safely and efficiently
  • Creating, monitoring and managing a safe and healthy workplace for all personnel
  • Visit sites and area offices as needed and provide continuous improvement feedback and reports
  • Regularly communicates with DMI on all injury management cases
Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of all OH&S Legislation, laws & regulations;
  • 5 to 10 years as a Safety Leadership experience
  • CSO (Construction Safety Officer) Designation or equivalent
  • Post Secondary education in a related field
  • Formal Safety Training/WHMIS and OFA designationLevel 2 first aid
  • AHERA certification in Building Hazardous Surface Materials
  • IICRC certifications that deal with structural drying/mold remediation//smoke and fire restoration
  • 3M Respiratory Train the Trainer Protection Course
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the restoration industry
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong Safety Background
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with difficult customers/clients on the phone and defuse a situation
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Ability to work in a constant changing environment

Licenses & Certifications:
Preferred

  • Construction Safety Train
  • COR Internal Auditor
