Description
The Accounting Associate's primary responsibilities include posting payments, accounts receivable and accounts payable.

The Accounting Associate works in collaboration with the London, Ontario Head Office team and ultimately reports to the Accounting Lead and VP of Finance.


Priorities change regularly in this position and the Accounting Associate must be flexible and willing to change roles and responsibilities as required.


Primary Responsibilities

General Duties

  • Post the rent payment agreements in property management system
  • Make cheques for external or internal matters
  • Electronic Funds Transfers monthly reconciliations
  • Post statement of adjustments on new purchases on properties
  • Track insurance policies for properties
  • Reconcile intercompany due to/from accounts, mortgage balances, mortgage payments
  • Create wire payments as needed
  • Reconcile bank account transactions
  • Create charges on Resident ledgers
  • Communicate with external parties such as Vendors, Insurance Companies, Banks, Residents and other parties
  • Assist in HST filing
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts
  • Enter journal entries

Accounts Receivable

  • Oversee deposits being closed
  • Oversee scanned deposits
  • Monthly reconciliation of undeposited funds
  • Verify/Reconcile and post Payments received
  • Verify/Reconcile all third party remittances received
  • Assisting Controller with questions and follow up with deposits
  • Set up direct deposits from third parties and verification
  • Bank account access to see if deposits are received
  • Reconcile prepayments not applied, Residents with no rent charges and adjustments/ discounts not applied and reviewing adjustments made to ledgers monthly
  • Respond to bill or payments refunds requested/received by fax
  • Reconcile bill payment bank account and process daily transfer from clearing account to operating accounts
  • Post all returned payments (Returned Cheques and EFTs)
  • Process monthly EFTs on the first day of the month and off cycle, reconcile EFT accounts
  • Post all deposits on 1st of month for residents that are moving out

Accounts Payable

  • Vendor reconciliations
  • Solve problems regarding invoices with wrong names, missing PO's or wrong PO's,
  • Compare invoices with agreement terms (contracts, quotes, estimates, etc.) completion certificate verification

The incumbent must possess the following knowledge, skills and qualifications:

  • College Diploma with a focus in accounting/finance
  • 2+ years of experience in an accounting/finance role
  • Windows OS Computer proficiency and the ability to learn and develop an understanding of softwares
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce accurate documentation
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and tasks to meet deadlines while working in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Ability to solve problems and take initiative
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Experience in property management is an asset
  • Experience working within a corporate structure that encompasses multiple legal entities considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to take initiative and work with mínimal supervision
York Property Management (YPM) manages 3,500+ residential apartment suites in Southwestern Ontario.

YPM offers a variety of different layouts of suites which accommodate a diverse demographic of young couples, families, students and retirees.

The company employs over 100 individuals working at head office, on site or at various properties managed by YPM.

Compensation is negotiable and will be determined upon the interview process and a benefit package will also be offered.
