Position Summary:


Reporting to the Manager of the Student Wellness Centre, the clinic aide contributes to the smooth operation, organized and positive atmosphere within the Centre.

The Student Wellness Centre at Laurier Brantford is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals that provide physical, emotional and mental health support for students.

The professional team includes family physicians, a psychiatrist, chiropractors, dietitian, mental health nurse, registered nurses, and counsellors.


The incumbent performs various supportive functions within the Student Wellness Centre related to facilitating smooth operations, service-delivery and administrative functions.

Specific duties include assisting the medical team comprised of physicians and nurses with bringing patients into appropriate rooms, assisting physicians with procedures, ensuring rooms are stocked appropriately, labeling laboratory specimens, and autoclaving/sterilization of medical equipment.

They work in a high traffic, fast-paced environment facilitating the flow of student traffic and assisting students with front-line requests and responding to priorities throughout the day.

A background in medical office procedures and knowledge of medical/legal ramifications is required. The Student Wellness Centre is an electronic medical record environment and is proficient with electronic medical records.


The incumbent employs medical knowledge and exercises sound judgment and assessment as a complement to the administrative functions for this position.

The incumbent will handle confidential medical information daily. Awareness of medical responsibilities relating to PHIPA is required.


Accountabilities:


Front line:


  • Assists physicians and nurses with putting students in rooms for their appointments and gathering necessary health information, such as vital signs and appropriate health history that assists the physician care of students
  • Assists physicians with procedures including the assembly and set up of appropriate clinical equipment (sterile dressing trays, swabs and specimen collections, etc.).
  • The incumbent is responsible for the appropriate removal and cleaning of clinical equipment when procedure is complete that meets infectious control guidelines
  • Prepares and supports patients for appointments and procedures including aiding with ambulation as required.
  • Participating in medically appropriate documentation that aligns with Medical Guidelines and PHIPA to ensure continuity of care and privacy are maintained.

Administrative duties:


  • Provides screening and rapid response requests, and responds accordingly to urgency departmental processes/procedures and available staff resources
  • Receives upset or anxious students with tact and sensitivity.
  • Maintains client/patient confidentiality at all times, including verbal, electronic, and written communication and all documentation.
  • Handles a high volume of traffic throughout the day, while simultaneously performing the other accountabilities of the position.
  • Facilitate registration processes with students (in person and on the phone), including responding to questions, and providing positive and welcoming first point of contact
  • Creation of accurate patient record within electronic records including demographic updates, past history and relevant clinical forms
