Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)


Under the direction of the Program Manager, in compliance with the funded program guidelines, and College policies, the incumbent assists multi-barriered, unemployed, and underemployed workers to explore, access, and retain employment and where necessary, initiates, develops, and secures employment opportunities, meaningful work experience and training placements for unemployed clients.

The Career Centre services require the incumbent to excel in a performance/outcomes-based model of service delivery.


Responsibilities:


  • Proactively outreaches to attract job seekers to register for employment and training services and to employers for hiring and training of job seekers.
  • Coaches clients to reach their attainment of employment and/or training goals.
  • Interviews, assesses, and maintains client engagement throughout the career exploration process for employment & training goal setting, attainment, and retention.
  • Works with the client to identify job search activities, access to training incentives and supports that are most suited to the client in achieving the desired outcomes.
  • Ensures continued support during the employment retention period for access to other required services and programs, problemsolves, and advocates on client's behalf to gain access to relevant community resources
  • Negotiates individualized training/placement agreements with employers and the job seeker, including determining the appropriate training length, level of financial incentives, monitoring schedule, and required assessments/training.
  • Develops supportive and strategic relationships with employers to identify and meet human resource needs, labour market opportunities, and trends, and to procure direct training/work experience for clients accessing assisted services
  • Assesses employer eligibility for access to training incentives, workplace capacity for training and providing a safe and positive workplace training, onthejob experiences and hiring of identified clients
  • Procures employment opportunities for participants seeking training/work experience, including apprenticeships, volunteer opportunities, job trials, or part/fulltime employment that are subsidized or unsubsidized
  • Negotiates, and completes documentation to support work placement contracts, skillsbased training plans, commitments, and where applicable financial incentives for each individualized client/employer connection
  • Provides training or resources on sensitivity/diversity, workplace safety, and accommodation needs, as required by employer/client while monitoring, problemsolving, and supporting clientemployer relationship
  • Responds immediately to clients and employers in crisis situations by demonstrating effective problemsolving and listening skills, and facilitating access to qualified professionals or organizing case conferences as necessary
  • Markets the services available through the Conestoga Career Centre to businesses, industry, community organizations, and various business associations
  • Prepares and facilitates recruitment/outreach information sessions/presentations for job seekers, employers, and professional associations
  • Organizes and participates in the community activities such as job fairs, trade shows, and employer networking opportunities
  • Builds and maintains contacts with other service providers to facilitate the referral process

Qualifications:

  • Threeyear Diploma/Degree in a Social Science related discipline
  • Assets include Life Skills Coaches Training, Career Development Practitioner Certificate, Human Resources experience
  • Two years of combined experience as an employment case manager and procuring employer leads for placement or direct employment. Case management experienced includes developing and implementing individualized employment service plans for unemployed clients requiring career planning or job search assistance
  • Experience with developing marketing leads to support the employment goals of the job seekers
  • Demonstrated experience conducting and participating in employer research, job fairs and other related employerfocused events to identify target markets and outreach opportunities
  • Proven track record for positive employment and training outcomes
  • Effective group facilitation skills and techniques in a "life skills format"
