COMMUNITY HOUSING STEWARDSHIP COORDINATOR:


Full-time, approximately 9-month contract

hours/week, evening and weekend work required

Wage:
$23.15


Additional Details:

LEAF is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the urban forest. Our planting programs and education/outreach programs have been connecting residents to the urban forest for over two decades. Our service area includes Toronto, York Region and some municipalities within Durham Region.

Role Overview:

The list below outlines the major responsibilities related to the position; however, additional tasks may be assigned as needed.


Responsibilities of Position:


  • Support program promotions for tree/shrub requests through the development of promotional materials and attending community outreach events
  • Manage tree/shrub requests with tenants and community housing staff
  • Create tree planting plans and receive approvals from program partners
  • Provide training to tenants on trees in the urban landscape, the benefits of the urban forest, planting technique and proper tree care practices through online learning activities and inperson outdoor events
  • Facilitate tenant engagement
  • Oversee/conduct assessments of the tree canopy/health on community housing properties
  • Conduct deliveries of native shrubs and perennial garden kits across the GTA
  • Coordinate mulch deliveries to community housing sites across the GTA
  • Coordinate recognition events highlighting the efforts of program participants and partners
  • Communicate with/update program partners on a regular basis
  • Support the training and supervision of seasonal and/or parttime staff assisting with our Community Housing Stewardship Program activities
  • Data collection and contributing to monthly metrics tracking
  • Draft marketing/communications content
  • Capture and assemble content (including photos) for reports, website, social media, newsletters, etc.
  • Additional support of LEAF's other Community Programs will be required as needed.

Qualifications required for the position include:

  • Degree, diploma or equivalent experience in community engagement, urban forestry and/or arboriculture, environmental studies, or a related field
  • Passionate about environmental stewardship and community engagement
  • Experience living or working within the community housing sector
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Customer service experience
  • Skills and experience with program coordination, event planning, and public outreach/education
  • Skills and experience in arboriculture and/or urban forestry, including knowledge of native trees and shrubs species
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to determine priorities, adhere to deadlines, multitask and work independently
  • Leadership skills and the ability to collaborate as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and superior organization skills
  • Creative problemsolving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Comfortable with the physical demands of outdoor work in inclement weather
  • Fully licensed to drive (G or G2 driver's license) with a clean driving record
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends, when needed
  • For individuals who work remotely, reliable internet connection and access to a computer and phone

Additional qualifications that will be considered assets:

  • Experience working or volunteering with a not-for-profit organization
  • Experience implementing diversity, equity and inclusion frameworks in community programming
  • Emergency First Aid + CPR and AED Certification an asset

  • 30 years of age or younger, and
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status
