Reports to: Senior Director of Inclusive Practice


Job Summary:
Responsible to provide initial consultation for all new families referred to Supported Child
Development (SCD), conduct initial assessment of support needs and request for additional support as
needed. Assist families to find a childcare program or other community-based supports; complete all initial
required documentation; make referrals to other agencies if appropriate; and collaborate with families and
providers for a positive placement. Support the inclusion of children who require additional supports in
childcare settings chosen by their families. Address parent and childcare provider needs, and issues
related to inclusion. Liaise with other professionals in the planning process and provide services such as
observation, non-clinical assessment, program monitoring, training, problem solving and collaboration.


Education Training and Experience:


  • Valid Early Childhood Educator License to practice issued by the BC Child Care Facilities
Licensing Board.

  • Valid Special Needs License to practice issued by the BC Child Care Facilities Licensing Board.
  • Valid Infant and Toddlers License to practice issued by the BC Child Care Facilities Licensing
Board.

  • Five (5) years recent related experience working in inclusive childcare and the community social
services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of family centered service, early
intervention, child development, family support and community-based services.

  • Valid First Aid Certificate as per childcare licensing requirements.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work purposes.
  • Criminal Record Review acceptable to the Centre.
  • Desirable: Valid School Aged Care Certificate.
  • Provide proof of vaccination as per BC PHO order for Health and Community Care Workers.

Skills & Abilities:


  • Demonstrated commitment to Family Centered Care and a customer service approach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community childcare resources and other community support
services.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of multicultural issues, Indigenous/Metis families, family systems and
culturally appropriate practices.

  • Ability to take on a leadership role in working independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective team building and relationship skills.
  • Ability to problemsolve, develop strategies and course of action to follow.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with children with special needs.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to be unbiased, open minded and flexible when working within a variety of community
settings.

  • Ability to operate related equipment and recognize when maintenance of related equipment is
required.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
