About the Role
The Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) is an office, coworking and event space serving the not-for-profit sector. We own and operate 100,000 sq. ft. of such space out of two brick and beam century buildings in downtown Toronto. Both of our buildings work hard, and require a good amount of TLC.

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Technician will assist with executing preventative maintenance programs, handling reactive maintenance and repairs, meeting with and overseeing trades people as needed, diagnosing building systems issues and repairing / refinishing offices between users to maintain pride of space.

This role also works closely with site based operations teams to provide a smooth building systems and member services experience day to day.


Responsibilities

  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance and inspections on equipment, including HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, tools, and kitchen appliances.
  • Perform minor repairs and improvements, including drywall, painting, plumbing, furniture, and masonry.
  • Diagnose, report, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Troubleshoot renovation and repair projects with trades, vendors and suppliers.
  • Attend regular facilities meetings.
  • Use a digital ticketing system (CMMS) to track work.
  • Comply with all safety precautions and building codes.
  • Be a collaborative member of our team.

Experience and skills:


  • High School diploma or equivalent; technical training or equivalent experience strongly favoured.
  • Experience in trades, construction, production and/or maintenance work viewed favourably.
  • Experience with tools and construction materials is essential.
  • Heavy lifting, working at heights, working in confined areas, and working in dirty areas will be required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial thinking capabilities are sought.
  • Strong organizational tendencies are ideal.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with members, staff, and contractors via multiple mediums.
  • International education and experience is welcomed.
