    Job description

    The Manager, Pharmacy Operations, is responsible for the managerial oversight of pharmacy distribution services at Brampton Civic (including pharmacy oncology services), Etobicoke General and Peel Memorial. This role includes, but is not limited to managing and overseeing daily operations, department communications, human resources management, operations workflow, orientation, training and staff development, and policy and procedure development and implementation. The activities of this individual must facilitate the integration of systematic change that positively impacts the provision of quality and customer service.

    Working in close collaboration with other members of the Pharmacy leadership team, the Manager, Pharmacy Operations, develops and implements the delivery of efficient, safe and high quality pharmaceutical and medication management services. They will also ensure that these services reflect evidence-based, outcome-oriented best practices that are in compliance with safe medication practices and accreditation standards.

    Accountabilities:

  • Promote and develop a leading edge, safe, effective and efficient drug distribution system in accordance with best medication management practices
  • Manage the staffing, recruitment, development and performance of all pharmacy technicians (including oncology)
  • Coach and develop teams, motivating individuals to optimize performance and maximize scope of practice
  • Work effectively with others on the management team to accomplish organizational goals and identify/resolve problems at the department level
  • Ensure that the distribution pharmacy services are in compliance with the required healthcare acts and regulations
  • Ensure the medication management system meets Accreditation Canada and Ontario College of Pharmacists standards
  • Ensure that standards of practice relating to drug distribution, sterile product preparation, non-sterile manufacturing and pre-packaging are being met and regulations followed as per the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Accreditation Canada standards, the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists Standards of Practice and any other regulatory bodies
  • Ensure the regular review and updating of policies and procedures
  • Strive for standardization of the medication management system
  • Achieve benchmark quality and utilization performance targets within an established budget
  • Monitor and respond in a timely manner to quality, safety, risk and other performance/outcome indicators
  • Oversee medication management quality improvement initiatives and risk reduction strategies in conjunction with other managers
  • Achieve benchmark quality and utilization performance targets
  • Lead and be actively involved in department and/or hospital committees and/or task forces as assigned
  • Influence and motivate staff through transformational leadership and encourage effective relationships among the inter professional teams, regional program partners and stakeholders
  • Work in partnership with physicians and other providers across the system to address priorities of the program
  • Assist with the implementation of pharmacy and therapeutics committee decisions
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety requirements
  • Work collaboratively with the Oncology Program at Brampton Civic to ensure safe and efficient distribution of oral and systemic therapy as well as immunotherapy including monitoring and coordinating back-orders of chemotherapy
  • Liaise with Headwaters Health Care Centre as required for support services through Brampton Civic pharmacy
  • Job qualifications

  • Eligible for licensure in Ontario with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Part A)
  • Post-graduate degree in management or clinical pharmacy practice an asset
  • Hospital Pharmacy Residency program certification an asset
  • Minimum two to three years recent experience in acute care setting and minimum two to three years recent related progressive leadership in acute care setting
