The Opportunity

  • RAM Iron & Metal is looking for a

Dispatcher for our Toronto

Facility to join our Team. This position reports directly to the General Manager for the

Toronto

Facility. You will be responsible for overseeing the daily performance of the dispatching activities, including but not limited to asset location of BINS, containers, trucks, shipping, receiving, out of service, tag out lock out etc. Hours of operations may vary however the logistics department open at 5:30am.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Establish daily work schedules and routines for Drivers.
  • Coordinate, assign and review the duties of Drivers to ensure that procedures, legislative requirements, and customer demands are continuously met.
  • Input or revise orders, collect work orders from Drivers and ensure information is accurate.
  • Communicate to Drivers regularly in regard to internal or external changes.
  • Direct the pickup and delivery activities by appropriately assigning Drivers to trucks.
  • Configure routes for pickup and delivery schedules.
  • Advise Drivers of route and traffic problems such as construction, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, weight and size restrictions and other information.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and requests for pickup and delivery of recyclable goods.

Record Keeping

  • Prepare reports for management involving the evaluation and tracking of administrative services such as but not limited to such things as quality assurance, Driver knowledge, customer service, production, tire repair, housekeeping and punctuality.
  • Keep records of the following:
  • Pre-inspection log book,
  • Hours of Service Log Book,
  • Maintenance records of all trucks and equipment on a weekly basis.

Monitoring

  • Resolve workrelated problems.
  • Monitor work related accidents, and incidents. Ensure that incident reports are accurately and promptly completed. Report incidents and accidents to management promptly.
  • Monitor accidents and incidents and track any habitual problem. Investigate situations for root causes, and provide corrective solutions to problems to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of the Drivers.
  • Monitor personnel workloads and locations.
  • Operate radio equipment and/or cellphone to communicate with Drivers.
  • Ensure smooth operation of computer systems, tracking devices, equipment and machinery and arrange for maintenance and repair work when needed.

View and monitor fleet Management to ensure drivers are;

  • Excessive speeding of more than 105km/hr or 64 miles/hr
  • Break times being adhered to
  • Trip assigned driver following route

Legal and Internal Regulatory Company Compliance

  • Ensure the correct and reasonable course of action is taken for all tickets, and offences.
  • Ensure drivers complete preinspection logbook daily.
  • Ensure that drivers complete a Driver Daily Run Report daily.
  • Ensure hours of service logbook are completed when necessary.
  • Handle customer inquiries.
  • Experience in ISO 14001 Environmental Management practices.

Qualifications:


  • DZ or AZ License is an asset
  • Prior and relevant truck driving experience (roll off, lugger, etc) is an asset
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
