The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) employs approximately 4,000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35,000 students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin, Wellington and the City of Guelph.

full-time permanent position who possess a professional work ethic and are passionate about working in the education sector.

This role will assist the Supervisor of Maintenance to make sure all facilities and equipment are monitored and maintained to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for the staff and students of the UGDSB.


LOCATION:
Assignments to all schools/locations maintained by the UGDSB. Responsible for Guelph/Aberfoyle family of schools


HOURLY RATE:
_Includes 9.8% market adjustment_


$32.14 per hour (probationary rate)

$34.19 per hour (permanent rate after a successful probationary period)

HOURS:40 hours per week (8 hours/day)

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Repair water lines, drain lines, pumps, heaters and related equipment
  • Install and repair drinking fountains, plumbing fixtures, sewage/sump systems
  • Diagnose and repair inoperative water heaters (gas and electric) /water softeners
  • Repair chilled and condenser water piping and devices
  • Install food services equipment, water lines, drains and piping
  • Report required repairs and safety hazards at all Board facilities to the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Adhere to Building Code, WHIMIS and Board Policies/Guidelines
  • Prepare estimates for project work
  • Maintain proper inventory and tools
  • Perform Type I and/or II asbestos removal, if qualified
  • Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance on various equipment
  • Purchase all material for related functions listed above
  • Document work order requirement
  • If licensed, will perform gas piping inspections, install and testing
  • Test and repair backflow devices
  • Service/Repair UV systems
  • Water sampling as required
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Valid Certificate of Qualification as a Journeyman from the Province of Ontario and ability to show evidence that they have held such a Certificate of Qualification for a minimum of two (2) years
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building and facilities operation and maintenance, mechanical systems and maintenance management systems and procedures
  • Minimum of five years directly related work experience
  • Functional knowledge of the proper operation and use of related equipment
  • Working knowledge of Plumbing Codes, the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must have or be willing and able to obtain your backflow prevention device tester certification and small drinking water systems operator course (water wells). The cost and time associated with this would be incurred by the Board. This certification is required to be maintained during employment.
  • General knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Ability to resolve emergency situations
  • Ability to maintain a work schedule with minimum supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Passion for a positive customer service experience with staff, students, and the public
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to perform all requirements of the position
  • Current Ontario driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety regulations as well as the WHMIS program
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks
