Position:
Youth Engagement Facilitator - EmpowerMen - Engaging Men and Boys Project


Classification:
Six Month Term (March 31, 2024) with a possible extension


Location:443 Spence Street Site

Background:

The Youth Engagement Facilitator is responsible for building relationships with educators, teachers, social workers in schools and other leaders in the youth work field.

The facilitator will be part of creating, delivering, and evaluating workshops for youth (especially boys and young men) to prevent sexual exploitation and empower them to develop healthy relationship skills.


Specific Accountability:


  • Conduct outreach and build positive relationships with educators, teachers, social workers in school divisions and schools, colleges, etc.
  • Build relationships with youth group leaders and other professionals working with youth in different settings
  • Participate in the development of workshops to engage boys and young men in the prevention of sexual exploitation in high schools and youth groups
  • Work together with youth and survivor advisory committees and educators to create content for workshops

Qualifications:


  • Degree in education, youth work, social work or similar field
  • Minimum of five years in high school education, social work in a school or youth serving setting, youth support services, or related field
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to build and maintain positive relationships with youth (grade 9 to 12) and with partners in the education field

  • Outstanding skills to engage young people through conversation
  • Knowledge of youth development (social, emotional, mental, relational) and the challenges that young people face
  • Being comfortable to discuss sensitive topics such as relationships, sexuality (pornography, consent, abuse), power and privilege etc. in a positive and empowering way with young people
  • Demonstrates ability to organize a busy schedule, follow through on all tasks as assigned and meet deadlines
  • Approachable, flexible, outgoing and nonjudgmental towards young people
  • Possesses a strong work ethic.
  • Driver's License and access to vehicle
  • Ability to work occasionally in the evening and on weekends
  • Supports Indigenous values; has knowledge of Indigenous cultures
