The Job - Drywaller/Painter

Drywallers at On Side are important team members who, help rebuild and restore damaged personal and commercial property, anywhere and anytime disaster strikes.

Delighting clients by making damaged drywall disappear, and new drywall appear in the form of smooth walls and appropriately textured ceilings, drywallers make clients believe magic has happened.

Painters add colour to clients dreams with fresh, clean surfaces in the perfect shade.

What you bring as a Drywaller/Painter

Experience working in construction environments with tools and the skills to use them
Strong people and communication skills
Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do
A safety mindset
Valid driver's licence and a clean criminal record (we do check)
Ability to communicate in English

What you're responsible for

A drywaller is skilled in the following ways:

Measuring, cutting and installing drywall sheets
Tear out old or damaged drywall
Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners
Fill joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks using trowel and broad knife
Tape and embed joints
Texturing of all types
Site preparation and protection

A painter is skilled in the following ways:

Estimate the quantity of materials required by measuring surfaces, reviewing scopes, sketches and work orders
Remove old coatings by stripping with solvents, heat, sanding, wire brushing, or water and abrasive blasting
Prepare surfaces for covering by cleaning, filling nail holes and cracks, and sanding rough spots
Match specified colours by using premixed paints, or mixing colour and thinning and drying additives

Other stuff that'll help you be successful but isn't mandatory:

Drywall Finisher and Plasterer ticket
Painter ticket
WHMIS
First Aid

Of Note
Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

$30.00-$40.00 per hour

Application question(s):

Are you proficient with hanging, taping, mudding, sanding and finishing?
Are you able to remove damaged drywall, repair the area with new drywall, and complete the job with fresh paint?
Have you ever done work on a home that had flood or fire damage?
Will you practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and noncluttered worksite: Work with a "clean as you go" mentality?
Are you able to work independently, without supervision?
Do you have experience with inhome renovations and carpentry? Please list your carpentry skills.
Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule? This is additional to scheduled day time hours.
Are you fluent reading / writing/ speaking English? If not, please rank your skills out of 10.
Are you comfortable driving a large fleet vehicle around the city and parking in residential streets?
Are you willing to learn and help other departments when not busy drywalling and painting: including Water Damage Technicians and Carpenters?
