We are seeking a
Digital Design
Student for our
Canadian Industrial Division. district office in Edmonton, AB, that is available
for **4 or
8 months **starting in
May 2024.

This position will be under the direct supervision of the Manager, Data Science.

Here's how a(n) Digital Design Student for our Edmonton Industrial Management office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities:

Designing and implementing beautiful visualizations to help interpret complex datasets in novel, intuitive ways
Helping produce design briefs and alternatives for products in our pipeline
Producing prototypes of datadriven products and analyses in multiple modes
Helping facilitate designthinking workshops with users, stakeholders, and developers
Participating in Agile processes around scoping, planning, producing, and managing work products.

This position has a twist. Contingent on successful early work, the team member will have a chance to build their portfolio through a capstone project. For the final two months, a portion of their time will be focused on a design-focused initiative, of value to PCL, of their choosing.

You'll be supported while you:

Develop a proposal
Engage with the right people to inform your work
Build your prototype or visualization
Assess and present the results

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in a postsecondary program such as design, fine arts, visual or graphic design
Postsecondary coursework in digital design or interaction design
Postsecondary coursework in computing science
Experience using a digital visualization environment (ggplot, d3, bokeh, etc)
Development experience, particularly in python and web environments, is a plus
Flexibility to shift focus and work on anything from schematics, to prototypes, to stakeholder presentations and the underlying datasets themselves.
Experience using Adobe creative suite
