Specific responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Support, administer, maintain, and enhance the EPS Geospatial platform.
  • Perform daytoday operations and participate in a 24x7 callout schedule.
  • Conduct statistical and geospatial analysis to support operational and strategic business analysis.
  • Assist in managing the enterprise GIS technology platform, including spatial data management, problem resolution, optimization. and ongoing enhancements and maintenance of the spatial platform and data sets.
  • Conduct business analysis to increase efficiency and build business process improvement models.
  • Research statistical modeling and spatial analytics trends related to intelligence led policing and public safety.
  • Consult with users, management, project, and GIS program staff to determine needs and system requirements.
  • Communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the service to ensure that all issues are addressed in a timely manner and proper coordination is carried out to minimize disruption of the geospatial platform and solutions.
  • Coach and mentor junior GIS analysts.

Qualifications:


  • Degree in a related discipline and four (4) years relevant experience
    OR Post Secondary Diploma in a related discipline and five (5) years relevant experience
    OR One (1) year related certificate* and seven (7) years relevant experience (* Relevant computer certificate programs generally have a minimum of 700+ instructional hours and will include relevant course work to the position. Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade or GED is required).
  • ESRI, Geocortex, and FME certification(s) would be considered an asset.
  • Geographic Information System Professional (GISP) designation would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience with databases and data warehousing, including data collection, database mining, geospatial and statistical analyses, organizing, compiling, manipulating, visualizing and summarizing large datasets and their metadata.
  • Experience in advanced data analytics, interpretation of data, and statistical modelling using Python, R, SQL, or other equivalent tools.
  • Progressive responsibility working in an operational support team with complex, multiserver environments.
  • Experience with BI tools (PowerBI, Cognos etc.).
  • Experience in project management methods and software would be an asset.
  • Experience with a Police or Public Safety organization would be a significant asset.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, teamwork, verbal, and written skills as well as a strong focus on customer service and troubleshooting.

  • As part of your prehire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.

Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade 032, $ $61.38 (Hourly), $3, $4, Bi-Weekly), $84, $108, Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
