    Description

    The Tool Shop Technician is responsible for customizing, maintaining, and repairing fiberglass/aluminum molds for use by the Production Department, both on and off production lines.

    The role is also responsible for the oversight of the Tooling Department and the maintenance of all hand and power tools and components it contains.

    Responsibilities
    Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
    Proficiency with MIG welding techniques.
    Epoxy and fiberglass fabrication for the development of jigs and molds.
    Read blueprints/drawings and take/read measurements to plan layout and procedures.

    Operate power tools to prepare parts/molds and make molds safe and ready for production use, including smoothing welds, welding on hinges/gaskets, welding counterbalances, and adding support structures.

    Align components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamp pieces.
    Finishing jig/mold to customer specification by cutting/sanding using tools or by hand sanding.
    Repair molds with epoxy.
    Modify mold/jig as per request.
    Follow-up on requests to ensure clarity and avoid errors.
    Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
    Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Experience


    REQURIED:
    Experience with epoxy and fiberglass, making molds/jigs or conducting body shop work.
    Experience using a variety of welding equipment.
    Experience in using electrical or manual power tools (saws, squares, drill presses, air drills, grinders, calipers etc.)
    Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and drawings.
    Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use PPE (face-shield, gloves etc.)
    Precision and attention to detail.
    Proficient in English.

    Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing support to the Production Department.

    Professional Certification (e.g. CWB welding certificate or millwright) preferred.

    Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
