Capital Power is currently seeking a collaborative and results-oriented individual to join our Forecasting & Analytics team in the Market Assessment & Forecasting (MA&F) department


You will contribute your knowledge, skills, and expertise to inform the decisions and actions to progress our company and the electricity system to a low-carbon future.

As the
_Forecasting & Analytics Specialist_, reporting to the

_Director, Forecasting & Analytics_, you are accountable for the timely delivery of reliable and robust long-term fundamental power forecasts and risk analysis for one or more of Capital Power's target markets.

This includes working closely across MA&F as well as cross-functionally within the company to understand and accurately model power markets.

As the

_Forecasting & Analytics Specialist_ you are also accountable for: developing and maintaining a high level of expertise in the use of fundamental production forecasting and analysis software; the efficient and effective use of data and analytics; and the identification and implementation of forecast modeling improvements.


You will contribute to our team by- Developing and demonstrating expertise in the use of the Aurora Energy Forecasting and Analysis Software (or similar), as well as tools, and market research methods.- Developing, maintaining and improving robust analytical tools, systems and data management solutions. Monitoring and analyzing forecast drivers such as policy measures, market rules, emission regulations, market trends, capital cost curves, renewable builds, retirements, and other relevant market fundamentals- Assessing the accuracy of modeling inputs and outputs.- Delivering accurate, reliable and timely long-term power market forecasts for target power markets and related contiguous markets.- Providing risk calculations and analysis using simulation techniques.- Performing ad-hoc analysis and tasks as required to support Capital Power's strategy development and execution.- Filling information and analysis requests from management and cross-functional partners in a complete, accurate and timely manner.

What you will bring to the role


Education:


  • University degree in economics, business, computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or related field.
  • Educational equivalency may be considered.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of related quantitative, analytical experience Solid understanding of:
  • North American power markets and energy system dynamics.-
  • Generation fuel and environmental markets.-
  • Fundamental power market modeling and assessment approaches, challenges, data management, research methods, tools, and software.-
  • Power generation assets and contracts

Technical Skills:

  • Critical thinking.
  • Strong Excel, SQL, VBA, and data management skills.
  • Proficiency in Energy Exemplar Software Aurora considered a significant asset.
  • Knowledge of programming languages.
  • Proficiency in data management and analysis, and research skills.
  • Ability to translate complex analysis for less technically oriented professionals.
  • Strong written, verbal and listening communication and presentation skills.

Social Process Skills:

  • Able to exercise sound professional judgement.
  • Positive attitude with a teambased approach.
  • Ensures supportive and collaborative relationships with various internal stakeholders are built and maintained.
  • Demonstrate culture of continuous improvement.
