Position summary:


Reporting to the Senior HR Manager, the Human Resources Specialist assists in providing Human Resources support, including but not limited to, recruitment and retention, staffing and orientation, project management, training and development, reporting, policies and procedures and assisting in the coordination of human resource planning initiatives.

This role provides administrative HR support to the team on all aspects of the employee lifecycle and partners with internal COE's to support the administration of HR programs and projects as assigned.

The successful incumbent requires strong systems & process orientation, ability to draw conclusions from various data inputs, focus on continuous improvement and solid collaborative skills.


Position Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition

  • Plan and lead full life cycle recruiting for various corporate roles in Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain and Finance.
  • Develop strong relationships with hiring managers and stakeholders and equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to support the hiring process.
  • Identify, share and implement best practices and trends in talent acquisition.
  • Plan and lead all Coop recruitment efforts with our university program in Finance and Marketing.
  • Manage new hire process to include coordination and conducting new employee orientation and onboarding sessions.
  • Support termination process to include preparation of documentation, scheduling & conducting exit interviews, sending notifications and collecting company property.
  • Process all employee changes via HRIS (Workday) and partnering with internal HR COE's to ensure required documentation and processes are transactioned.
Human Resources

  • Manage employee and management inquiries related to HR programs and practices, and engage appropriate HR team members as required related to performance management, employee relations, disciplinary, and compensation issues.
  • Respond to and resolve employee questions related to policies and procedures, benefits, and other HR practices and programs.
  • Support the Human Resources function with daytoday administration, including employee inquiries, composing letters, memos, presentations and other documentation as directed.
  • Perform routine and ad hoc reporting from various HR systems to support the needs of the business and the HR Management Team.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and provincial employment practices and standards.
  • Serve as primary contact person for Unemployment questions and required government reporting and information.
  • Maintain HR employee files and audits as necessary.
  • Assist in coordinating employee related onsite meetings and events as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications, Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related degree preferred, working towards CHRP designation
  • 23 years of professional experience, preferably in Human Resources
  • Knowledge of Human Resources related legislation both federal and provincial
  • Basic understanding of benefits and compensation administration, market pricing, labor law, and organizational development
  • Ability to manage projects and problem solving
  • Effective and deliberate communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Workday or other HRIS preferred
  • Ability to effectively multitask with a strong sense of urgency
  • Keen attention to detail; identifying errors and making recommendations
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, change in a dynamic business environment
  • Ability to develop strong relationships and partnerships with internal customers, peers and effectively manage those relationships.
