About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a
Regular full-time
Manager, External Financial Reporting to join our dynamic
Financial Reporting Advisory & Pension Services team.


The Financial Reporting Advisory & Pension Services team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by utilizing best practises to ensure the integrity of the financial reporting system, while providing strategic and analytical support regarding the financial system and the general ledger.


In this role, you will oversee the production of all financial statements and related reporting for Canadian Blood Services for presentation to various stakeholders including, Board of Directors, Provincial Ministers of Health, Executive Management Team, and other stakeholders.

You will provide oversight of pension plans and captive insurance companies as well as manage investments and foreign currency, cash flow, including cash flow forecasts, financing of large acquisitions, and maintaining banking relationships.


Formula for success

  • Leveraging your continuous growth mindset, you will plan and organize while leading the external financial reporting functions of Canadian Blood Services, including reporting to various committees and boards, provincial and territorial member, and the public.
  • Utilizing your proven success for leading a collaborative team of people to achieve specific objectives, you will manage a team of senior financial analysts responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating all external financial activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting of all financial results for the organization.
  • Drawing on your superior organizational skills, you will oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearend financial reporting, including the nonconsolidated and consolidated financial statements.
  • With your ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people, you will manage the external audit relationship and coordination on key accounting issues.
  • Utilizing your excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, you will oversee the treasury function and banking relationships of Canadian Blood Services.
  • With your desire for excellence, you will lead the cash flow forecasting exercise, shortterm and longterm, to ensure there are sufficient funds for operations. This includes providing advice on the use of cash flow management strategies.

Desired education and skills

  • Postsecondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is required.
  • Accounting designation (e.g., CPA) is required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of accounting, audit and/or financial reporting experience is required.
  • Audit experience is a strong asset to this position.
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial accounting and reporting under GAAP (ASPE and IFRS) is required.
  • Broad knowledge of advanced accounting principles, accounting systems, analytical functions, internal controls, and financial reporting processes is required.
  • Expertise in pension and benefits accounting is an asset.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services head office location in Ottawa Alta Vista Drive, 40% of the time/ 2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
