The opportunity
We are searching for an Abilities Management Manager to join the People & Safety team.

As a vital member, you will lead the Abilities team by establishing efficient processes, setting best practices, and providing mentorship and guidance.

You will need to bring expertise and leadership to the development, implementation, and administration of policies and programs aimed at enhancing overall employee and corporate wellness.


You also maintain a high level of support for employees through frequent communication with the employee, collaborating with the employee and care providers in development of goals and objectives compatible to the employee's disability, monitoring their progress, communicating, and collaborating with managers and union representatives.


The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director of Safety, Health, and Security, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Leading the abilities team through education, training, mentoring and development
  • Overseeing the development of policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulations
  • Leading the coordination, structuring and oversight of both short and long term objectives and programs to deliver organization goals
  • Coordinating case management activities of all occupational and nonoccupational injuries and illnesses, to support safe, timely and sustainable returns to work
  • Promoting best practices in disability management through communication, provision of expert advice and education of employees, leaders' union representatives, People and Safety and others, as appropriate
  • Advising leaders and employees, clarifying roles and responsibilities and providing expert interpretation and guidance on collective agreement provisions, terms and conditions regarding shortterm illness and injury plan and longterm disability plan
  • Collaborating with leaders to resolve issues on complex cases, returntowork, retraining, reasonable accommodation, or alternate employment plans
  • Providing expert consultation, advice, and coaching to stakeholders related to case management progress, services, roles, and responsibilities
  • Collaborating with diverse teams including People and Safety, Leaders, and external partners, including Union representatives and insurers

What you bring to the team
You have a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences or other related health discipline. Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) is an asset. You also bring 4 to 6 years of direct experience in managing disability claims and/or WCB/Insurance claims.
