    About the Role

    Teranet is currently looking for a Data Research Analyst. The Data & Analytics team within the Financial Solutions line of business has an ambitious mandate, where we are accountable for leveraging Data & Analytics to deliver business value both internally as well as to external clients through the following:

    • Enhance existing or create new products and services with proprietary data assets and partnering with external data providers, through the application of data science.
    • Design and deliver custom data solutions to fulfill specific client needs.
    • Explore and analyze data to generate business insights to enhance decision-making.
    • Demonstrate thought leadership in the ecosystem in which we operate.
    • Identify and implement opportunities for operational efficiencies across the organization.

    The Data Research Analyst will support these ambitious goals primarily through data research, data partner engagement, evaluating data quality and usability, and then providing insights through data visualization and business intelligence.

    We are looking for:

    • Engage with stakeholders to understand business requirements and objectives for data & analytics use cases.
    • Research, identify and then collect / extract the external data sets required for the use case. Creativity, thinking outside of the box, and resourcefulness is required to find new and relevant data sources to meet business requirements.
    • Explore data to build foundational data knowledge in subject domain.
    • Engage with internal data governance and legal teams to ensure data license terms and conditions are aligned with Teranet standards.
    • Engage with data partners and legal team to complete legal documents governing use of data either for evaluation purposes or for full data license.
    • Establish an inventory to actively keep track of statuses of various data assets.
    • Analyze, assess, and remedy the data for quality and usability.
    • Investigate and document data anomalies and gaps through to resolution.
    • Develop recommendations for data usability for specific use case to inform procurement decisions.
    • Develop data subject matter expertise for procured data sets leveraging supplier and other resources.
    • Recommend ways to integrate disparate data sources into a usable data model to meet business requirements.
    • Present business insights in a meaningful and intuitive manner, in accordance with the target audience, using visualization or BI tools.
    • Establish a framework for the continuous monitoring and updating of the data inventory to ensure ongoing relevance.

    About You

    • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field: Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering
    • Minimum 2 years of work experience in a Data Analyst capacity
    • Experience with open data
    • Understanding of AI as a potential data source
    • Proficiency in SQL and Python (regular usage, practical experience)
    • Practical experience in data analysis: data cleansing, exploration, and modelling
    • Proficiency in using data visualization tools (Tableau), other BI tools (PowerBI), and Excel
    • Knowledge of Big Data Technologies: Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, HBase, Storm, Spark, Kafka, etc.
    • Strong organization skills and discipline
    • Effective communication skills to actively engage with external data partners to align on requirements and thoroughly understand the data set at hand.
    • A self-starter with the ability to balance multiple deliverables and manage projects to targeted milestones.
    • Agile and flexible to accommodate evolving deliverables in a challenging and ambiguous environment.
