Primary Purpose


Reporting to the Manager of the Library and Learning Commons, the Undergraduate Liaison Librarian would work as a team with our current Undergraduate Librarian to provide innovative student-centered support with a focus on our undergraduate programs and students.

The Library reflects the focus of the University with a particular emphasis on resources relevant to contemporary business, communications, and technology.

UCW librarians provide resources and services to students studying in person at both Vancouver campuses as well as online.

Librarians advise both students and faculty and provide them with the tools and strategies to discover, access, and effectively use the full range of information resources available to meet their teaching, learning, and research needs.


Specific Responsibilities

Outreach:

engage students and faculty to identify needs, obtain feedback and suggestions for improvement of Library Services, and collections and promote the Library to these groups.


  • Examples of responsibilities: meeting with faculty to establish learning outcomes for library workshops; designing and implementing a marketing plan for promoting the use of a particular library service/products; working with institutional committees to expand the reach of the library and identify areas of growth; working with faculty to support curriculum development.
  • Examples of responsibilities: working in collaboration with faculty in researchfocused courses to develop coursespecific learning objects and expand general library workshop series to include information relevant to undergraduate student success.
In addition, the liaison librarian will play a critical role in ensuring that library operations run smoothly by:

  • Collaborating with other full and part-time librarians as well as student assistants to enhance library services
  • Collaborating with the Library manager and other Liaison Librarians to develop, manage and assess information resources to meet faculty teaching requirements and student learning needs
  • Help circulate and manage the library print collection, including course reserve materials and library equipment
  • Assisting students with research and reference services, including the AskAway chat service

Position Requirements

  • MLIS degree from an ALAaccredited institution
  • Up to 2 years of experience in a professional library; strong preference for academic library experience
  • Proven ability to create effective working relationships with Library staff and users with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience planning and teaching classes/workshops in different modes of delivery (including inperson, online synchronous, and online asynchronous)
  • Demonstrated experience working and communicating with diverse populations
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong commitment to excellent and empathetic service
