POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Program Manager, Communications and Outreach, is responsible for participating in health promotion activities as mandated in the Ministry of Health and Long - Term Care, Ontario Public Health Standards 2008, Chronic Diseases Program Standards, in order to promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles behaviours in residents of the Region.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1.


Program Functions:


  • Participates in orientation and related training programs.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of educational and promotional materials and awareness campaigns related to health promotion activities.
  • Assists in resource development, educational workshops/information sessions and community events related to promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing risks in areas such as chronic diseases, and cancers. (Sunsense and Active Transportation community initiatives).
  • Assists with environmental scans, literature reviews, resource inventories and focus groups related to Divisional programs.
  • Assists in compiling data and report generation related to Division programs.

Liaison, Communications and Customer Service Activities:


  • Responds to inquiries from the public or refers to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains effective communication with the team.
  • Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.

Other Duties:


  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Branch or Department objectives.
  • May occasionally be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours, as related to the Departmental Emergency Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled on a full time basis in a post secondary program in Health Promotion, Nursing, Education, Urban Planning or related program.
  • Returning to school full time in the fall.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G or G2" driver's license, free of any demerit points, and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies.
  • An awareness of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Mandatory Ontario Public Health Standards 2008, Chronic Diseases Program Standards.
  • Demonstrated skills to assist with data retrieval, literature reviews, environmental scans and report writing.
  • Demonstrated skills in working effectively with individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public and present information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work variable hours as required and some weekends.
