    Salary: $43.11- $62.32 per hour
    Shifts: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday
    Status: Temporary Full Time

    Position Summary The Toronto Centre for Liver Disease located at Toronto General Hospital is a University Network Centre for Excellence for viral hepatitis and autoimmune liver diseases.

    As a member of the TCLD in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, the Biostatistician II or III (SENIOR BIOSTATISTICIAN) plays a key role in supporting the research efforts of clinical researchers at the Liver Clinic.

    Duties

    • Providing statistical expertise to Hepatology researchers in the planning, conduct, analysis and reporting of research studies, including:
      • Application of efficient study designs, ensuring studies are appropriately powered to reliably answer study questions.
      • Provision of advice on data collection and analysis using statistically valid methods including development of formal Statistical Analysis Plans.
      • Design, implementation and oversight of participant randomization in clinical trials.
      • Analysis of data from observational and interventional study designs.
      • Reporting of results, including the writing of statistical methods sections of manuscripts submitted for publication and supporting and/or leading peer-reviewed grant applications.
    • The Biostatistician will also oversee data management for the TCLD, involving:
      • Data acquisition from clinical databases (e.g. EPIC) as well as integration of data from external sources (e.g. ICES, Public Health Ontario) to generate project-specific databases that can be used for analysis including deidentification/anonymization of data to generate reports as well as figures/tables for publications/grants.
      • Assistance with data management for research coordinators and data analysts will be required.

    Qualifications

    • Master's or PhD (preferred) in Biostatistics or Statistics or recognized equivalent.
    • Minimum four (4) years' practical and related experience.
    • Experience working in a health or science-related discipline, preferred.
    • Experience working in highly regulated industries, preferably with healthcare data (PHIPA, etc.).
    • Experience designing and implementing complex software and various electronic data capture (EDC) systems (e.g. REDCap, Castor, Medidata Rave, or similar) an asset.
    • Strong coding and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
    • Strong project management skills and experience in applying related tools.
    • Working knowledge of statistical packages: SAS and S-Plus using a UNIX or Windows platform is essential.
    • Knowledge of R, R studio, SPSS and/or Stata preferred with working knowledge of Excel and Access required.
    • Experience with data management including integration and cleaning of databases from multiple sources for analysis required.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
